The Air Cadet Charity (previously Air Training Corps General Purposes Fund) has been supporting cadets for over 60 years. Originally established in 1960 by the Secretary of State for Air the fund supports charitable purposes for the benefit of cadets and personnel of the Air Training Corps.
Until recently the Headquarters RAF Air Cadets played a significant part in the running of the fund and ensuring that the charitable objects were met. The Commandant RAF Air Cadets and the trustees of the fund, recognising the need for change, made the decision to transform into an independent grant making charity. This change allows the charity to continue to meet its underlying purpose and objects whilst expanding its reach within the Air Training Corps. To reflect these changes the fund was renamed the Air Cadet Charity in December 2023.
